Leah Sherwood’s approach is all about teamwork: She wants to educate and empower her patients.
“When someone is able to take charge of their own hearing health care, it makes all the difference,” says Dr. Sherwood. “That’s why I teach my patients strategies to advocate for themselves and their communication needs.”
Learning ASL in high school in Portland, OR, led to college coursework in speech therapy — but when she discovered audiology, she knew right away what her career path was. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon University and her Doctor of Audiology degree from Pacific University. She completed an externship at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Chicago and has clinical experience in private practice, an ENT practice, and a research hospital.
Dr. Sherwood, who has significant experience working with patients with cognitive impairments, is passionate about providing patients better access to hearing health care and serving as many patients in need as possible.
Leah, who married her high school sweetheart Tyler in June 2014, loves hiking, swimming, gardening, and cuddling with her dog, Avery. A longtime pescatarian, she’s always looking for restaurant recommendations!
